WBBL|02: The finals equation

Three teams will be vying for the final two spots in the final round of matches of the Rebel Women's Big Bash League season.

The Scorchers and the Sixers are guaranteed a spot in the finals which means the Hurricanes, Stars and Heat will fight it out for the final two spots.

Should teams finish level on points, they’ll be separated by number of wins first and then net run rate. With a thrilling finish in store, we’ve detailed what each of the five teams needs to achieve in their final match.

Table

Fixtures

Brisbane Heat vs Adelaide Strikers

Hobart Hurricanes vs Melbourne Stars

Sydney Sixers vs Melbourne Renegades

Perth Scorchers vs Sydney Thunder

State of Play

Perth Scorchers

Current Position: 1 Points: 16 Run rate: +0.357

The Scorchers cannot miss out on the finals but could finish as high as first or low as fourth depending on the other results.

Sydney Sixers

Current Position: 2 Points: 16 Run rate: +0.338

The Sixers cannot miss out on the finals but could finish as high as first or low as fourth depending on the other results.

Melbourne Stars

Current Position: 3 Points: 14 Run rate: +0.286

A win in their final match against the Hurricanes will ensure the Stars a top-four finish. If they happen to lose then would need Strikers to beat the Heat to sneak into fourth spot.

Brisbane Heat

Current Position: 4 Points: 14 Run rate: +0.050

The equation is simple for the Heat, win and secure a top-four spot. If they happen to lose they will need the Stars to beat the Hurricanes so they stay in fourth spot.

Hobart Hurricanes

Current Position: 5 Points: 13 Run rate: -0.046

The only way the Hurricanes can book a spot in the semi-finals is if they beat the Stars. A loss will end the Hurricanes season as they currently sit in 5th spot.

There is no mathematical chance of the Renegades, Thunder and Strikers qualifying for the semi-finals.
