Player Story
Not many people had heard of Akshar Patel before the 2014 Indian Premier League when the allrounder impressed for Kings XI Punjab with 17 wickets and was named emerging player of the tournament.
That performance brought the off-spinner to the attention of national selectors and Patel made his one-day international debut against Bangladesh in June 2014.
Patel, made his competitive debut in early 2012 playing for his home state Gujarat and was one of the key players in India under-23's title win in the ACC Emerging Teams Cup 2013.
Patel played a crucial hand in the 2024 T20 World Cup final against South Africa, hitting four sixes in his quickfire innings of 47 off 31, helping India win their first senior ICC tournament in over a decade.
