Kuldeep Yadav made his international debut in a Test match against Australia at Dharamsala in March 2017. He took 4-68 in the first-innings. His ODI debut followed in June 2017, while his T20I debut was in July.

Idolising the great Shane Warne, the left-arm wrist spinner caused plenty of trouble to batters with low speeds and a high degree of turn early in his career.

In December 2019, Kuldeep became the first Indian bowler to claim two international hat-tricks. He achieved the feat in an ODI against the West Indies. His first had come against in Australia at the Eden Gardens in 2017, also in an ODI fixture. Kuldeep had also recorded a hat-trick in the 2014 U19 World Cup.

However, he entered a difficult period in 2019, when his formed dipped and stats took a hit.

Kuldeep made a strong comeback after a knee surgery in 2021, with new variations also added to his arsenal.

Kuldeep has spent a large part of his Test career on the bench, staying behind Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja in the pecking order. However, he has been amongst the wickets whenever he has been given the opportunity in the longest format.

He was part of the dominant Indian white-ball teams that won the 2024 T20 World Cup and the 2025 Champions Trophy.
