Player Story

England-born but WA-bred, Josh Inglis has developed into a versatile wicketkeeper-batter across all three formats of international cricket.

Inglis made his first-class debut for the Cricket Australia XI in 2015 in a tour match against West Indies. Rewarded with a Western Australia contract for the 2016-17 season, it wasn't until the 2019-20 summer that Inglis started to really make his mark.

That Big Bash campaign saw the right-hander hit 405 runs with four half-centuries. The next summer, in BBL|10, he broke the 400-run barrier again and followed up with some impressive performances for London Spirit in the inaugural season of The Hundred, following which he received his first call-up to an Australian squad.

His international debut came in a home T20 against Sri Lanka in February 2022 before an ODI debut – this time away to Sri Lanka – followed in June of the same year.

At the 2023 ODI World Cup in India, for which Inglis was selected as the squad's reserve keeper, he replaced Alex Carey in the XI after one match and held his spot throughout for Australia's famous victory in Ahmedabad.

During Australia's tour of the United Kingdom in 2024, Inglis set a new Australian record with a 43-ball T20I century against Scotland.

He became Australia's 30th ODI captain, and the 14th in T20 internationals, when named to lead in home series against Pakistan in 2024-25, while his hot form also earned him a maiden call up to the Test squad as a specialist batter for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series.

He made his Test debut against Sri Lanka in Galle in late January 2025, scoring a century on debut, making him only the fourth Australian man to score centuries in all three formats of the game. He played his first Tests at home in the 2025-26 Ashes as a batter. In October 2026 he was a late inclusion for the Cape Town Test when Steve Smith was ruled out with injury just before the coin toss and hit a sparkling century which made him the first Australian to hit two centuries in all three international formats.
