Player Story
Born in South Africa, BJ Watling relocated to New Zealand when he was 10 years old.
He was part of the Under-19 squad for the World Cup in Bangladesh in 2003-04 and made an impression on selectors.
A talented right-handed batsman and part-time wicket keeper, Watling was selected to play against Pakistan in a Twenty20 match in Dubai in late 2009.
Just weeks later he was chosen to play his first Test against Pakistan, where he scored an unbeaten 60.
His one-day international debut followed against Sri Lanka in August 2010 and his best score to date came in November 2012 when he scored an unbeaten 96 against Sri Lanka.
