Touted as a "generational" multi-sport talent, Mia Barwick followed her cricket dream to debut for Tasmania in the WNCL aged just 15. By that time she already had a plethora of accolades under her belt, starting with making her first-grade debut as a 12-year-old in primary school. From rural Mangalore, north of Hobart, she had already been identified by Tasmania's pathway system. As a 13-year-old she was added to the Hobart Hurricanes squad for the T20 Spring Challenge in October 2024, and travelled to Abu Dhabi with the squad for a pre-season tournament.
Having just turned 15, she played twice for Hobart in the 2025 T20 Spring Challenge, then in December that year dominated the U19 National Championships to be named player of the tournament for her 242 runs at 48.40, while also taking four wickets with her right-arm pace and five catches. Her WNCL debut arrived in January 2026, playing four matches, and was named in the Australia U19 squad for a tri-series against England and Sri Lanka in south-east Queensland.
In 2026-27 she was signed to her first professional contract, a rookie deal with her home state.
