Player Story
On track to finish his career as one of Australia's all-time greatest fast bowlers, Mitchell Starc's classical left-arm action and ability to swing the ball at pace has made him one of the most watchable players of the modern era.
Hailing from NSW, Starc made his international debut aged 20 and announced himself in just his second international match, taking 4-27 in an ODI against Sri Lanka at the Gabba in 2010.
A Test debut followed in 2011, and in the next summer Starc took eight wickets for the match against South Africa in Perth before bowling Australia to victory against Sri Lanka in Hobart, taking 5-63.
Australia’s title-winning 2015 World Cup campaign brought out the very best in him – he was deservedly named player of the tournament for his tally of 22 wickets.
In November 2017, Starc became the first bowler to take a hat-trick in each innings of a Sheffield Shield match, while playing for New South Wales against Western Australia.
His 200th Test scalp came in February 2019, securing his spot alongside some of the greats of the game, while his 300th came against South Africa in late 2022.
That year, Starc became the quickest ever bowler to 200 one-day international wickets, eclipsing a 23-year benchmark set by off-spinner Saqlain Mushtaq.
He added another ODI World Cup title in 2023, taking 16 wickets to cement himself as one of the tournament's most prolific bowlers of all-time, and was part of the side that won Australia's first ever men's T20 World Cup in 2021.
He joined the elite in 2025, taking his 400th Test wicket in his 100th Test match in the Caribbean in July.
Starc retired from T20 International cricket with 79 wickets from 65 games in September 2025 to focus on extending his Test and ODI careers, targetting the 2027 triple treat of a Border-Gavaskar Trophy tour of India, an ODI World Cup in South Africa, Namibia and Zimbabwe and, of course, an Ashes tour.
