Bio

Though small in stature, Leah Poulton certainly packs a punch at the crease!

The opening batter is one of the most entertaining stroke makers in the women’s game, and she’s certainly set the standard in the WT20 by becoming the first player to score 1500 runs in the Australian domestic competition.

Last summer she was the second leading run scorer in the WT20, hitting 359 at 35.90, while she also made 234 at 29.52 in the WNCL.

Poulton made her State debut in 2002 and has since played 90 WNCL matches for the Lend Lease Breakers. She’s scored over 2000 runs and despite making 17 half-centuries, she’s yet to reach triple figures in 50 over cricket. However, she remains the only NSW player to score a century in the WT20 and she’s one of only three players to have been part of all eight of NSW’s consecutive WNCL titles.

Poulton made her International debut in 2006, hitting a century against New Zealand in just her third game. She has since played two Tests, 48 One Day Internationals and 40 T20 Internationals, and she was part of the Australian teams that won the 2010 and 2012 World T20s.

In December 2012 she announced her retirement from One Day Internationals but remains available for selection for T20 Internationals.

Away from cricket, Poulton works as a school teacher. She grew up in Newcastle before moving to Sydney to pursue her cricket career.
