Voges joins Australian greats

The veteran reached the 1000-run milestone against the West Indies

Adam Voges put his name up among the greats on Sunday when he became the equal fourth fastest Australian batsmen to score 1000 Test runs.

In just in 18th Test innings, Voges passed the milestone against the West Indies when he hit Kraigg Brathwaite through point for a single to move on to 78.

When Voges passed the mark his average against the West Indies was 514, having been dismissed just once.

The great Sir Donald Bradman reached the 1000-run feat in just 13 Test innings, while Neil Harvey (14) and Sid Barnes (17) are the only other Australians to better Voges' efforts.

Herbie Collins, Doug Walters and Mark Taylor also passed 1000 runs in their 18th Test innings, while Mike Hussey and Arthur Morris needed 19.

Australia captain Steve Smith was recently asked about Voges and he was full of praise for the 36-year-old.

"He’s batting as well as anyone in the country at the moment and he’s got that experience," Smith said.

"He’s been there and done the lot.

"I think it’s good that he’s scoring runs when we’re under pressure. I think that’s the most important thing and he’s providing that beautifully."

Voges had three Test hundreds to his name prior to the Boxing Day clash against the West Indies, while he boasts an impressive Test average in the 70s.
