Voges not expecting any surprises

Australian batsman Adam Voges expects the WACA wicket being prepared for the first Commonwealth Bank Test against South Africa to be similar to the one that hosted this week's Sheffield Shield game between Western Australia and South Australia.

While the Redbacks claimed a comfortable 10-wicket win over the Warriors during the first session of the fourth day of their Shield clash yesterday, Voges said the wicket was good.

"I thought there was enough movement there throughout the three days that the bowlers had enough assistance," he said.

"But as we saw, with three hundreds (hit), if you batted well you could score runs as well.

"I don't think (the wicket being used for the Test) will be too dissimilar.

"I would possibly like to see it a bit harder on day one though."

Voges missed out with the bat, scoring 20 in the first innings and a duck in the second, but teammate Shaun Marsh cemented his Test spot with scores of 73 and 110.

Redbacks pair Callum Ferguson (101) and Tom Cooper (138) also made centuries.

National Selection Panel chairman Rod Marsh isn't sure what to expect from the Perth wicket next Thursday.

The former WA and Australian wicketkeeping great said that the days of knowing the ball would come through fast and short each year had long gone.

"You never know what you're going to get over here anymore. In the past, you knew exactly what you're going to get," Marsh said.

"I saw that pitch last year and I couldn't believe it. Having played most of my cricket here, I know the ground has changed and all that sort of stuff, but it's nothing like it used to be."
