South Australia lose 6-73 after tea as Western Australia take control of Sheffield Shield match in Perth
Match Report:
ScorecardSA collapse gives WA handy lead
Four wickets from veteran paceman Michael Hogan has helped put Western Australia in a strong position after day two of their Sheffield Shield clash with South Australia at the WACA Ground.
Hogan claimed 4-49 as the Redbacks were dismissed late on Sunday for 230, trailing the Warriors by 81 runs on the first innings.
WA openers Cameron Bancroft (1) and Marcus Harris (2) both fell cheaply in the 54 minutes before stumps, but experienced pair Shaun Marsh (19) and Adam Voges (nine) safely guided the home side to 2-31, an overall lead of 112.
Hogan snared Mark Cosgrove (20) and Travis Head (0) in consecutive deliveries during the middle session before Sam Raphael (80) and Jake Lehmann (47) combined for a 91-run stand to guide SA to 3-157 at tea.
The 34-year-old trapped Lehmann in front with the fourth ball after tea and Nathan Rimmington then removed Raphael for his highest first-class score in the following over.
SA lost 6-73 after tea, with Alex Ross the last man out for a valiant 45.
Nick Benton did not bat after dislocating his shoulder in the field late on Saturday.
The Redbacks' innings got off to a poor start when Joel Paris (2-60) had Jake Weatherald edging to Marsh at second slip for a golden duck.
Weatherald's wicket gave Paris an unofficial hat-trick given the left-armer claimed the final two wickets in consecutive deliveries during WA's thrilling win over Queensland last Sunday.
However, official laws stipulate a hat-trick can only be counted if the feat is achieved in the same match, including across innings.
WA collected 2.35 bonus points and SA an additional 1.8 points, as both teams fight to claim a place in the Shield final later this month.
Earlier on Sunday, Hilton Cartwright took his overnight score to 139 as WA's first innings closed at 311, with Redbacks pacemen Daniel Worrall (5-91) and Joe Mennie (4-58) claiming the final two scalps.
