Prithvi Shaw ruled out of Test series

The talented opener has been ruled out of the remainder of the Domain Test series against Australia

Teenage batting prodigy Prithvi Shaw has been ruled out of the remainder of the Domain Test series, with talented allrounder Hardik Pandya and upcapped opener Mayank Agarwal parachuted into the India camp for the final two Tests.

Shaw injured his ankle taking an outfield catch in India's sole tour match in Sydney last month.

On the eve of the second Test in Perth, the 19-year-old was said to be "recovering well" from the lateral ligament damage he sustained, but he will now miss the final two Tests in Melbourne and Sydney.

Replacing Shaw is Agarwal, the 27-year-old uncapped right-hander who averages 50.03 from 45 first-class matches

Pandya is also included in India's squad for the final two Tests, following his successful return from injury during the Ranji Trophy tournament.

The allrounder claimed 5-81 in the first innings then scored 73 for Baroda in his comeback match.

Injury has played havoc with India this tour.

Along with Shaw, ace spinner Ravichandran Ashwin and hard-hitting batter Rohit Sharma have succumbed to injury.

'He'll break all records except Bradman's average'

Ashwin sustained a left side strain in Adelaide, while Rohit hurt his back in the field in the first Test.

Both players were made unavailable for the second Test at Perth Stadium.

Shaw made a brilliant century on Test debut as an 18-year-old against the West Indies in October.

The diminutive right-hander made 134 in Rajkot and backed it up with scores of 70 and 33no in his next Test.

Team India would have been hopeful of Shaw returning to full fitness as both Test openers – KL Rahul and Murali Vijay – endure a difficult start against the Australians.

Vijay is averaging 12.25 after two Tests, while Rahul is averaging 12.
