Vote: Biggest Hitters of the BBL, Round 1

Ahead of the 10th season of the KFC BBL, we're taking a look at some of the biggest hitters in tournament history and want you to vote for your favourite

There have been thousands of sixes hit over nine seasons of the KFC Big Bash League, but we want to know who has been the biggest and best six hitter in the competition's history.

In the lead up the start of the new season on December 10, we want you to pick your favourite six hitters in BBL history in a series of head-to-head match-ups before we're left with just one, who will be crowned the unofficial Biggest Hitter of the BBL.

We've narrowed the field down to 16 of the best power hitters the competition has seen, with the winner to be revealed on the eve of the new season.

Fans can have their say in a series of head-to-head polls over the two weeks, with votes to be tallied across the KFC BBL social channels on InstagramTwitter and Facebook.

Match 1: Chris Lynn v Brendon McCullum

Voting in this match-up is now closed. Chris Lynn (63%) won the vote over Brendon McCullum (37%)

Chris Lynn (Brisbane Heat)

Matches: 77

Sixes: 146 (Rank 1)

Balls per six: 10.6 (Rank 5)

% of runs in sixes: 37.6 (Rank 6)

Biggest Hitters of the BBL: Best of Chris Lynn

The most prolific six-hitter in BBL history by a significant margin, Chris Lynn and clearing the rope go hand in hand. The Brisbane Heat basher averages almost two sixes per game and his total number of sixes (146) is a staggering 63 more than any other player in the competition's history. His high-risk style may not come off on every single occasion, but when it does, the fans in the crowd need to be on high alert.

Brendon McCullum (Brisbane Heat)

Matches: 35

Sixes: 38 (Rank 28)

Balls per six: 17.7 (Rank 23)

% of runs in sixes: 24.8 (Rank 23)

Biggest Hitters of the BBL: Best of Brendon McCullum

The other half of the Heat's dynamic duo, Brendon McCullum was nowhere near prolific as Lynn at clearing the rope during his BBL career, but still he managed one six per game on average. One of the most dangerous off-side players in the modern era, McCullum hit twice as many fours as he did sixes for the Heat and the site of him charging at a fast bowler and lofting him over cover became a hallmark of a thrilling career.

Match 2: Chris Gayle v Travis Birt

Voting in this match-up is now closed. Chris Gayle (81%) won the vote over Travis Birt (19%)

Chris Gayle (Sydney Thunder, Melbourne Renegades)

Matches: 22

Sixes: 51 (Rank 18)

Balls per six: 9.4 (Rank 2)

% of runs in sixes: 47.1 (Rank 1)

Biggest Hitters of the BBL: Best of Chris Gayle

As has been the case throughout his long career, Chris Gayle's time in the BBL was nothing if not entertaining. In two stints in the competition, almost half of the Jamaican's 649 runs came in sixes, the best ratio in the competition's history. The powerful left-hander, who during his time with the Renegades equalled the world record for the fastest T20 fifty (12 balls) cleared the rope every 9.4 deliveries he faced and was a nightmare for any bowler.

Travis Birt (Hobart Hurricanes)

Matches: 29

Sixes: 32 (Rank 37)

Balls per six: 14.6 (Rank 13)

% of runs in sixes: 28.3 (Rank 13)

Biggest Hitters of the BBL: Best of Travis Birt

One of the BBL's original six hitters, Travis Birt stormed into Australia's T20 side on the back on some incredible hitting first with Tasmania in the old state-based competition and then with the Hurricanes. The left-hander averaged more than a six per innings during his career and made a habit of peppering the stands at Bellerive Oval – and sometimes going over them.
