No play for third straight day in Bulls-SA clash

The country's newest first-class cricket ground has yet to be christened, with play in the Marsh Sheffield Shield match between Queensland and South Australia abandoned for a third consecutive day.

Brisbane's Ian Healy Oval got the call-up for the fixture following concerns over the drainage at Allan Border Field.

But the surface has proved just as temperamental, the ground failing to dry sufficiently despite two days of clear weather in the Queensland capital.

It had come after the first day was a washout.

Umpires inspected the field at 3pm (AEDT) on Thursday but determined it was still not in good enough shape to start the match.

It leaves just one day left in the clash, with only a series of very sporting declarations paving the way for a result.

Just 76 overs have been bowled across the last two Shield matches in Brisbane, with last week's match against Victoria also weather-affected.

Top-placed Queensland will start turning their attentions to the final-round match against NSW starting on April 3, with a win likely to give the Bulls hosting rights for the final.

SA are in last place and now seem set to claim a fourth consecutive wooden spoon in the competition.
