Windies veteran Pollard retires from international cricket
West Indies captain Kieron Pollard has announced his retirement from international cricket after playing 224 limited-over internationals for his country over 15 years.
The highlight of the 34-year-old Pollard's international career came in 2012 when he played a key role in West Indies winning the T20 World Cup.
The big-hitting allrounder played 123 one-day internationals from 2007 and 101 T20 internationals from 2008.
Cricket West Indies named Pollard captain of the one-day and T20 teams in 2019.
Last year in Antigua, he hit six sixes in an over to guide West Indies to a four-wicket win against Sri Lanka in a T20I.
"As I move on and make room for those who will carry the game forward in West Indian colours, know that I will always be supporting in whatever way I can," Pollard said in a post on Instagram on Wednesday.
"It is with profound gratitude for living my dream that I now raise my bat in salute to all that is West Indies cricket."
CWI President Ricky Skerritt said the organisation was "especially grateful for the high quality of leadership and commitment he invested in both West Indies teams."
