Fraser-McGurk blasts fastest ever one-day century

South Australia's Jake Fraser-McGurk has rewritten the record books with an astonishing onslaught at Karen Rolton Oval

Every ball: Fraser-McGurk smashes fastest ever one-day century

Jake Fraser-McGurk has blasted a world-record 29-ball century in the Marsh One-Day Cup, the fastest white-ball ton ever scored.

After watching Tasmania put on a record 9-435, Fraser-McGurk got South Australia's run chase off to an extraordinary start with a hundred that eclipsed AB de Villiers' previous record of 31 balls for the fastest one-day century.

It was the fastest limited-overs ton scored in a professional match, while the opener's 18-ball fifty was the quickest by an Australian in 50-over cricket.

The 21-year-old needed just 11 deliveries to go from 50 to 100.

He was finally caught on the mid-wicket boundary off Beau Webster's off-spin in the 12th over having scored 125 from 38 deliveries. He had hit 13 sixes and 10 fours to lay a strong platform with his Redbacks 1-172.

It marked his first century in any professional format, coming in the Melbourne-born right-hander's fourth game for South Australia having crossed from Victoria in the winter in pursuit of more opportunities.

The fact he eclipsed Luke Ronchi's previous benchmark for the fastest Australian domestic one-day ton (off 51 balls) by 22 deliveries underlined the scale of his feat.

After starting with innings with a single, Fraser-McGurk smashed Sam Rainbird's second over for 32 (the equal most ever conceded in the competition) by smashing four sixes and two fours.

None of the Tigers bowlers were spared and at one stage he struck five consecutive sixes. It saw him reach triple-digits in the ninth over of the innings.

When Fraser-McGurk was finally dismissed, his opening partner Henry Hunt was 39no at the other end, having had a front-row seat to the jaw-dropping hand.
