Fifteen uncapped players, including a star of the Under-19 World Cup, are among the Australians who will go under the hammer at the upcoming IPL auction
World Cup stars headline 47 Australians in the IPL auction
Pat Cummins and David Warner headline the list of 47 Australians who will go under the hammer at this month's Indian Premier League auction, while a young Aussie allrounder currently playing at the Under-19 World Cup has also made his way onto the auction list.
The IPL today confirmed the full list of 590 players, trimmed back from the more than 1200 who nominated themselves last month, who will go under the hammer at a two-day 'mega auction' in Bengaluru on February 12 and 13.
Cummins and Warner are among the 10 'marquee' players who will be available, alongside Ravichandran Ashwin, Trent Boult, Quinton de Kock, Shikhar Dhawan, Faf du Plessis, Shreyas Iyer, Kagiso Rabada and Mohammad Shami.
Those marquees are among 48 players who have the highest reserve price of 200 lakh, which is approximately A$377,000.
Australian T20 World Cup winners Steve Smith, Mitchell Marsh, Matthew Wade, Josh Hazlewood, Adam Zampa and Ashton Agar are also in that bracket, along with fast bowler Nathan Coulter-Nile.
Aaron Finch, Usman Khawaja, Kane Richardson and Chris Lynn are in the next bracket of 150 lakh (A$283,000).
Fifteen Australians uncapped at senior international level have been included, including the likes of Hayden Kerr, Matt Short and Tom Rogers, who all enjoyed breakout seasons in the recent KFC BBL.
But the standout name among the 11 Aussies in the lowest bracket of 20 lakh (A$38,000) is 18-year-old NSW allrounder Aidan Cahill, who is currently with Australia's squad at the Under-19 World Cup in the Caribbean.
The big-hitting right-hander has a strike rate of 145 at the World Cup, highlighted by an innings of 72 from 45 balls against Scotland.
Star Australian allrounders Glenn Maxwell and Marcus Stoinis have already been signed on big-money deals before the auction.
Maxwell, who was bought by the Royal Challengers Bangalore for A$2.52 million at last year's auction, has already been retained by RCB alongside Virat Kohli and Mohammad Siraj.
Stoinis, meanwhile, has been picked up by the new Lucknow franchise along with KL Rahul and Ravi Bishnoi, reportedly in a deal worth around A$2 million.
Australians were among those who cashed in at last year's auction, with fast bowlers Jhye Richardson (A$2.48 million) and Riley Meredith (A$1.42 million) joining Maxwell in signing big-money deals.
Meredith has set himself a base price of 100 lakh at this year's auction, while Richardson – who it was confirmed last week would skip the upcoming Pakistan tour as selectors look to manage his workload – will not be part of this year's auction.
