All bow before 'The Bash Brothers'

Brisbane Heat dynamic duo set Gabba ablaze with remarkable display of power hitting

We've seen Lillee and Thomson grace Test cricket.

And Kohli and de Villiers in the Indian Premier League.

But in front of a record 34,601 fans for their first home game of the KFC Big Bash League season, the Brisbane Heat unleashed the most exciting pairing this tournament has ever seen: 'The Bash Brothers'.

Chris Lynn and Brendon McCullum.

In doing so, they issued an ominous warning to every bowling attack in the competition.

Chris Lynn hits one out of the Gabba!

McCullum starred in game one for the Heat and Lynn stole the show second time around, but this was the double act that Big Bash marketers must have dreamed about in full swing for the first time, and the results were simply devastating.

Chasing a respectable target of 175 set by the Hobart Hurricanes, theridiculously big-hitting duo made a mockery of the total in the space of 8.5 overs, during which they combined for a rollicking partnership of 109.

In a whir of maximums, the game was all but done.

And these weren't just any maximums; McCullum dotted the second tier with a flagrant disregard for the safety of the fans who had come to cheer him on, while Lynn set his sights beyond the venue itself and into the traffic on Vulture St.

Lynn finished unbeaten on 84 from 50 balls, with four fours and seven sixes.

McCullum set the tone early, blazing 72 from 35 balls, with 10 fours and four sixes.

All told, the combined figures are staggering: 156 runs from 85 deliveries, with 14 fours and 11 sixes.

The Gabba can seldom have played host to a more spectacular show.

Even Hurricanes allrounder Dan Christian – who lit up this corresponding fixture last year by planting a six on the roof – was in awe.

"Tonight, we got beaten by two blokes who are in pretty good nick," he told bigbash.com.au with deliberate understatement.

"They're absolute superstars of the game … Lynny does that kind of thing all the time.

"I think he is comfortably (the biggest hitter in Australia) and he has been for probably the last three or four years in the Big Bash.

"He's done it consistently and I'm sure it's only a matter of time until he's in that Australian team regularly."

Re-live Chris Lynn's staggering six-fest

Lynn was Player of the Tournament in BBL|05 and his reputation as the league's biggest hitter preceded him before a ball had been bowled this summer.

But he was forced to carry the Heat last season just about single-handedly, which was never a recipe for success; the team finished sixth with just three wins despite scoring more runs than any other team.

Throw McCullum into the mix – the man who only 10 months ago hit the fastest hundred in Test history (an astonishing 145 from 79 balls against Australia) – and suddenly the greatest show on turf is in teal.

"With Baz, you just let him go. He does his own thing and he does it well," Lynn told bigbash.com.au shortly after the conclusion of his own batting blitz.

"It's so good to just be able to sit back on your bat and have the best seat in the house to watch him.

"He's one of the best and his record speaks for itself.

"Off the field, he's so calm and on the field he's so aggressive. He's such a good bloke to have around and we look forward to having him for the next couple of years."

Which means for the Bash Brothers, this is just the beginning.
