Stats that matter from Australia's defeat of Pakistan

4 – The number of teams – Australia, Melbourne Renegades, Pune Warriors, Yorkshire – Aaron Finch has captained in Twenty20 Cricket. On his captaincy debut for Renegades he scored a hundred, whereas for Yorkshire he made a duck.

3-13 – Bowling figures of Glenn Maxwell, the best by any spinner from Australia in Twenty20 Internationals. He achieved this record in only three overs. The previous record belonged to Steven Smith and Xavier Doherty, who had both taken 3-20, against West Indies and South Africa respectively. Maxwell based on his bowling performance was awarded man of the match, the first of his career.

52 – The number of innings David Warner has played in Twenty20 Internationals without being stumped, the second most by any batsman and now only three behind Mahela Jayawardene’s record (55 innings). Warner nearly broke his streak when he left the crease in first over of the Australia innings but wicketkeeper Umar Akmal fluffed the chance behind stumps.

4 – The number of boundaries conceded by Australia, the least their bowlers have leaked when bowling all 20 overs of a Twenty20 innings. Their previous record was eight boundaries (seven fours and a six) against England at the MCG in 2011. The world record is held by Canada who gave away only one boundary against Bermuda at Belfast in 2008. It was also only third time that Australia’s bowlers were not hit for a six in the 20 overs.

20.83 – The percentage of extras given by Australia in the match. Of the 96 runs Pakistan scored, 20 came in extras, the second-highest contributor for them after Saad Nasim (25). The extras percentage (20.83) is the highest by Australia’s bowlers in Twenty20 Internationals. Their previous unwanted record was 15.44 per cent when they conceded 19 sundries in Bangladesh’s total of 123 during the ICC World Twenty20 Match in Cape Town in 2007.

71 – The number of players Australia have used in Twenty20 Internationals, the most by any team. They went past England, who have given caps to 70 players in the 20-over format. Australia handed four caps in this match alone and it was the fourth time – excluding the first ever T20I – that they had four debutants in same match. Interestingly, all the debutants (Cameron Boyce, Kane Richardson, Sean Abbott) who bowled in this match grabbed a wicket in their first over.

136 – The average first innings total in Twenty20Is at Dubai International Cricket Stadium, the second lowest for any venue in world, behind Belfast (110). At the other end, the highest are Eden Park (Auckland) and the Wanderers stadium (Johannesburg), where on average teams score 166 runs in first innings.

1489 – The number of days since Pakistan last played a Twenty20 International without Mohammad Hafeez, who is currently No.1 allrounder in both T20I and ODI Rankings. He had not missed a match for Pakistan in over four years (since September 7, 2010) and played 43 matches on the trot since then.

30 – Dubai International Cricket Stadium has hosted 30 Twenty20Is, the most by any venue. The next in the list is the Wanderers Stadium Johannesburg (21) and then Colombo RPS (20).

3 – Pakistan left-arm spinner Raza Hasan has played five T20Is against Australia and on three occasions he has taken two wickets for less than 20 runs in fours overs against them.

6 – When Ahmed Shehzad and Awais Zia opened the innings for Pakistan, it was their sixth different opening combination in their last eight Twenty20 series.

0.66 – The win/loss ratio of Shahid Afridi as captain of Pakistan, the second worst for any captain from top-ranked international teams who have led in at least 10 matches. He has won only eight matches and lost 12. Bottom of the win/loss ratio is West Indian Chris Gayle at 0.60, with six wins and 10 losses as captain. (Excluding captains of Bangladesh, Zimbabwe and the Associate teams).
