Shafali Verma emerged as a batting prodigy at the age of 15 and broke into the Indian team a year later. In November 2019, at the age of just 16, she was involved in a mammoth 143-run stand in a T20I against West Indies.

Her knock of 73 in the same game made her the youngest Indian woman to register a half-century in international cricket. She also went onto bag the player of the series award.

Shafali was the captain the of the Indian side that won the inaugural ICC Women's U19 World Cup in 2023.

Although she carried the reputation of a big-hitting smasher, Shafali proved her worth for Test cricket when she converted her maiden century in the format to a double against South Africa in 2024.

A lean run of form that followed saw her being dropped from the Indian team, but Shafali would make a triumphant comeback straight out of a Bollywood flick with a player of the match performance in the final of the ICC Women's World Cup 2025. After being parachuted into the squad to replace an injured Pratika Rawal for the final, Shafali took 87 runs and two wickets to take India to their first World Cup title.

She was subsequently named in India's squads for all three formats for the mult-format series in Australia in February-March 2026.
