Baggy Green Queens: Raelee's rollercoaster 1985 Ashes win

The 1984-85 Womens' Ashes series in Australia threw more than one curveball at fast bowler Raelee Thompson.

In the second episode of Baggy Green Queens, a series by the Scoop Podcast celebrating the most iconic moment's in the history of the women's Ashes, Thompson shares the cracking tale of how a bout of gastro ahead of the fifth and deciding Test in Bendigo nearly curtailed Australia's dream of reclaiming the trophy after more than 30 years.

Raelee was an exceptional cricketer who carved out an excellent career at a time when there was little fanfare around the women’s game, and she also excelled in another male-dominated industry – working for Victoria Police as a fingerprint expert and senior sergeant for nearly 20 years.

Raelee is still very passionate about cricket and spends a lot of her time mentoring the next generation at her home club of Essendon Maribyrnong Park Ladies Cricket Club.
