Tasmanian pace-bowling allrounder Mitch Owen first debuted for Hobart Hurricanes in BBL|10 but his breakthrough season didn't come until four years later when given an opportunity to open the batting. The right-hander smashed an epic 64-ball 101 not out in his second game at the top to announce himself as a star of the future and help Hobart finish the BBL|14 regular season in first place.

But his crowning moment came in the final of that season, equalling Craig Simmons' 39-ball record for the fastest Big Bash century to deliver the Hurricanes their maiden title.

Raised in Kingston south of Hobart, Owen graduated from the pathway system by earning his first state contract in 2020 after hitting two centuries and a 93 in his 415 runs at 60 for Tasmania in the 2019-20 Under-19 National Championships.

Around the same time, he switched from bowling off-spin to medium-pace and enjoyed a breakout 781-run and 18-wicket season for Premier League club New Town in 2019-20. 

A raft of T20 gigs followed his BBL|14 exploits, earning short-term contracts in the SA20, PSL and IPL, and Major League Cricket in the USA where he was 2025's player of the tournament. 

In July 2025, Owen made his T20 International debut against West Indies in Jamaica, scoring a half-century on debut in a middle-order finishing role.
