Player Story

One of the world's most dynamic and exciting players, Victorian Glenn Maxwell has revolutionised one-day and T20 batting.

The allrounder first gained global fame in 2013 when, just six months after his international debut, he earned a million-dollar contract from Indian Premier League franchise Mumbai Indians.

He first showed promising signs for Australia in white-ball cricket during the side's ODI tour of India in late 2013, scoring 172 of his 248 runs in boundaries. A few months later, Maxwell justified his IPL hype with a successful season with Kings XI Punjab – also finishing as the league's third-highest run-scorer.

Maxwell also made his Test debut that year but by late 2022 had played just seven Tests – all in Asia – the highlight of which was a maiden century in 2017 against India in Ranchi.

In his side's triumphant 2015 ODI World Cup campaign, the Victorian smashed a 51-ball ton against Sri Lanka at the SCG – the quickest for Australia in ODIs. He broke his own record against the Netherlands in the tournament's 2023 edition by reaching three figures in 40 balls, which was also the fastest World Cup century. No Australian has more T20 international hundreds (five) than Maxwell, which puts him level with India captain Rohit Sharma.

A crowd-favourite in the Big Bash League, in early 2022 Maxwell smashed an incredible 154 not out against the Hobart Hurricanes, becoming the first ever player to pass 150 in the competition. The clash at the MCG was also Maxwell’s 100th BBL match, becoming just the sixth player to reach the milestone.

But perhaps his finest moment came during the 2023 ODI World Cup triumph when he became the first Australian man to score an international double-century in the 50-over format, with his incredible unbeaten 201 while suffering severe cramps single-handedly lifting his side from 7-91 to chase down Afghanistan's 5-291.
