Bio

A right-arm fast bowler from country South Australia, Kane Richardson made his first appearance for the Redbacks in 2009 and had to wait more than two years before he forced his way into the Sheffield Shield side.

With an action not dissimilar to that of former Test paceman Paul Reiffel, Richardson’s breakthrough season came in 2012-13 when he took 21 wickets from just five Ryobi Cup appearances at a miserly average of 13.8.

It led to his ODI debut, conceding just 15 runs from six overs against Sri Lanka before he was removed from the attack for repeatedly running on the pitch.

Having remodelled his follow through and impressing in the Big Bash League, the Indian Premier League and for Australia A, Richardson returned to Australia’s ODI side for the tour of Zimbabwe in 2014.

Richardson confirmed his status as one of the country’s best bowlers with the white ball when he was voted South Australia’s Matador Cup Player of the Year in 2015. He took 15 wickets at 22.73 for the tournament and was rewarded with a recall to the Australian ODI team for matches against India and New Zealand.

As of 2017, Richardson has been plying his trade for South Australia and the Melbourne Renegades. In addition to being a highly skilled bowler, Richardson is an athletic fielder and competent batsman, making him an asset to any team in the shorter formats.
