Player Story
A competitive leg-spinner who gives the ball an almighty rip and can turn it both ways, Lloyd Pope was identified at a young age as a good prospect for Australian cricket.
Called up to Australia's U19 side to face Sri Lanka in April 2017, he took 15 wickets in five matches, and won a rookie contract with South Australia for the 2017-18 season at age 17.
He earned a spot in the Australia Under 19 World Cup squad for the 2018 tournament in New Zealand and set a new tournament record with an incredible 8-35 against England in a quarter-final win, bowling England out for 96 while defending a total of just 127.
His Sheffield Shield career started in similar fashion, claiming 7-87 against Queensland in only his second match.
Although his state career stalled, in 2019-20 Pope enjoyed an excellent Big Bash campaign with the Sydney Sixers, taking 10 wickets before being squeezed out of the XI for the final for Nathan Lyon.
Pope was an inspired signing by the Adelaide Strikers for BBL|13 and now based back in his home state, took 13 wickets in a career-best campaign.
